German white wines are extremely popular both at home and abroad. This is mainly due to the characteristic features of German grape varieties. Due to the cooler climate, the grapes can ripen slowly, which is why they have a much higher acidity than southern European wine varieties.

More than 100 white grape varieties are planted in Germany - above all Riesling and Müller-Thurgau , also known as Rivaner, which account for around a third of German vineyards. The wine-growing regions for white wines from Germany stretch from the Elbe to Lake Constance.
