The Bernese WOLVERINES JAZZBAND was founded more than 60 years ago and still inspires! Exciting facts about their history: The band was formed in Boll, a farm in the Bernese Mittelland first under the name "Boll Street Stompers". The Wolverines from Chicaco became their role model and so they changed the band name. Due to the good echoes at their concerts, in 1967 the band single-handedly converted their practice venue into the first jazz club in Bern!
While the band moved stylistically within the framework of the European New Orleans Revival when it was founded, today it cultivates Chicago jazz. Despite the advanced age of the band members, there is nothing of the much-cited Bernese slowness. The band sparkles with vitality. The seven seasoned gentlemen inspire with brilliant solos, blaring horn riffs, a crafty pianist and a swinging rhythm section. The Wolverines' repertoire is very varied and consists of Dixieland, blues, boogie-woogie and swing.
